For
everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.
I
don’t think of myself as an overtly proud or arrogant person. But as I examine my conscience and prepare
for the sacrament of reconciliation,
which I find to be difficult, I realize humility is not a strength of
mine. I would rather focus on the good I
have done than be honest about the good I know God was calling me to that I
left undone.
Lord,
grant me the humility to be like the tax collector who bowed his head and asked
for your mercy. It is not works done to
be seen that justify us, but a heart humble enough to ask for your
forgiveness.
